Four Time NBA Champion Lebron James has agreed to a two-year, eight million dollar deal with the Philadelphia 76ers.
The deal comes almost a month after he announced that he would be leaving the Los Angeles Lakers. Over the last month, LeBron reportedly narrowed down his options to 5 teams, the Cavaliers, the Heat, the Warriors, the Timberwolves, and of course, the 76ers.
The signing with the 76ers came as a shock to many fans, according to popular trading markets like Kalshi and Polymarket, the 76ers had the fourth best odds to land the 22 time All-Star.
LeBron was reportedly intrigued by the addition of Jaylen Brown earlier this month, and was not considering the 76ers prior to the deal according to ESPN Insider Shams Charania.
Additionally, James was recruited heavily by Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown, and V.J. Edgecombe.
It is not certain whether LeBron will play out the second season of his contract, as it is a player-option, but Shams Charania reports that there is a chance James returns for the 2027-28 season.
James stated in an Instagram post that this will be the final decision he ever makes, meaning that the dream of LeBron teaming up with Steph Curry is over
After an embarrassing loss in the second round to the eventual NBA Champions, the New York Knicks, the 76ers decided to fire President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey. The 76ers, owned by Harris and Blitzer sports company, were led in their search for a new president of basketball operations by former GM of the Golden State Warriors, Bob Myers. Myers eventually landed on Cavaliers GM Mike Ganzey, who has made big moves since stepping in.
In addition to the Jaylen Brown and LeBron James acquisitions, Philadelphia made some more marginal moves this off-season, signing guard Anfernee Simons to a two-year contract worth 12 million dollars, and forward Dean Wade to a four-year 39 million dollar deal. Also, they selected guard Labaron Philon Jr. with the 22nd pick in the draft, a pick that was acquired in a deal at the 2026 deadline which sent Jared McCain to the Thunder.
Philadelphia’s championship odds have soared since the LeBron James news, and they are now the third favorite team to win it all, trailing the Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs, meaning that they are first in the Eastern Conference.
