Volleyball Rolls Past Los Gatos

The girls volleyball team swept SCVAL league rival Los Gatos, three sets to zero, on Tuesday night at the Peery Center.

For the Vikings, it was the team’s second win against the Wildcats this season. They took set one 25-18, set two, 25-21, and set three, 25-22. The victory increased their current winning streak to an impressive eight straight games and according to MaxPreps, they are now 15-3 overall and remain undefeated in league play so far.

In the third set of the match Los Gatos got out to a really hot start scoring eight unanswered points. It looked like the Wildcats were going to force a fourth set, but the lady vikes battled back and took the set and the victory.

Juilanna Roth (‘18) commented on the exciting third set.

“It is always discouraging when you don’t start strong,” Roth said. “I think that when you are down, especially in the beginning, you really need to dig deep and do something different to start winning points. I always get nervous when we aren’t ahead in the first ten points, but it happens sometimes and that’s when the team needs to come together and come up with a plan. I think it shows our team’s resilience because it is easy to let the other team win and not fight for every point.”

Some of the strengths for this year’s group that played a huge roll in their Tuesday night victory against Los Gatos, and throughout this season, has been their communication as a unit and consistent passing on offense.

“Our keys to success this season have been communication and running our offense in system,” Isabella Marcus (‘18) said. “Our passing has been really solid so our setters are able to put the hitters in a good spot every time.”

The Vikes look to stay on a roll as they play their next game versus league opponent Saratoga on Thursday, October 12 at 6:45 at Saratoga.
