After an exceptional season in 2022, with a dominating victory at both Leagues and CCS and a third-place finish at states, the Paly boys swim, and dive team is looking to accomplish big things this season.

The coach, Danny Dye, is excited to see what the boys team will do.

“[We will] continue with an air of confidence,” Dye said. “The boys team has a certain confidence about them. It’s not overconfident, they just know they’re a good team.”

The team was undefeated last year in league meets.

The boys swim team has many incredible athletes. Senior Arthur Balva has qualified to compete at the Olympic trials, with a shot at the Olympic games in Paris in 2024, and is ranked 13th in California, according to Swimcloud. Ethan Harrington, who performed an astonishing CCS record in the 50-yard freestyle at last year’s CCS meet with a 19.73, already beat that time in the past year, dropping to an incredible 19.45. He is ranked 5th in California, according to Swimcloud, and senior Henry Gibbs holds 29th place. With three athletes in the top 30 of the state, the team clearly has immense talent and strength. The seniors hope to work alongside the younger swimmers this season to create a strong swim team for the current and coming seasons.

“The younger swimmers coming up are a good team,” Dye said. “[The older athletes] recognize what it takes to … go generation to generation now, rather than just focus on one year.”

The diving team is also strong this year, with some returning athletes and some new talent. These divers will help score valuable points in earning more victories for the swim and dive team.

The team hopes to recreate their dominance this year and maybe earn the silver or gold at the state championship.
