In a showdown between the senior and junior classes for the powder puff championship, the senior class brought down the juniors, 21-14.
Receiver Ali Kershner (’11) put her seniors on the board first, with a reception from quarterback Trina Ohms (’11) who found Kershner in the end zone on fourth down.
After an unsuccessful junior drive, Ohms again found her teammates, passing to receiver Helen Butler (’11) four a comfortable 14-0 lead. However, the resilient juniors’ countered on their next drive when quarterback Keyanna Campbell (’12) found receiver Emilee Osagiede (’12) in front of end zone to bring the deficit to one touchdown.
Once again, Ohms found Kershner, who cut back and ran the ball in for the score, widening the gap with a 21-7 lead. The ensuing drive for the juniors proved ineffective, as the senior offense took to the field again after a four and out. Looking to close out the juniors altogether, Ohms connected with Kershner on fourth down, but the seniors were not able to score as Kershner was downed before the marker.
In a must score position, Campbell hit Kimmy Whitson (’12) with a pass in the end zone, to pull within reach of the seniors. Osagiede then intercepted Ohm’s pass on the next play, to give her class a final chance to tie the game. The chance quickly escaped as Campbell’s first play was picked off by senior defensive back Butler, ending the juniors’ hopes for a comeback.
The seniors took possession again, but the lunch bell soon rang, signaling the end of the contest.
