On a sunny Friday afternoon, the Viking baseball team defeated Gunn High School 6-2, led by Isaac Feldstein (’13), Austin Poore (’13) and pitcher Danny Erlich (’14).

Erlich began the game on the mound for the Vikings, letting two Gunn runs in the first two innings, putting the Titans up 2-0. The momentum shifted in the fourth inning when Feldstein slammed a home run to put the Vikings on the board. In the bottom of the fifth, Poore hit a double, his second hit of the game, but the Vikes were unable to bring him home.

After a scoreless fifth inning, Poore took initiative once again with a third hit. Michael Strong (’13) was up next for the Vikings and advanced Poore to third with a bunt. Strong then stole two bases, bringing Poore home with Feldstein at bat. Tied 2-2, Feldstein was walked bringing Bowen Gerould (’14) to the plate.

With a sacrifice bunt, Gerould brought Strong home to give the Vikings a 3-2 lead. The Vikings maintained their offensive momentum when Sean Harvey (’13) brought in Feldstein. James Foug (’13) took the plate next, pulling off a base hit to bring home Rowan Thompson (’13) and Gerould.

Strong closed out the game on the mound, leaving the final score 6-2.

Erlich was pleased with the team’s ability to make adjustments as the game went on.

“We usually hit hard pitching well and they threw in a loopy lefty who threw really slow, so he’s the guy that would have given us the most trouble, so we adjusted really well,” Erlich said.

The Vikings will take on Los Altos on Wednesday away at 3:30.
