Boys Soccer Wins 1-0 Over Menlo-Atherton

The boys varsity soccer team defeated the Menlo-Atherton Bears 1-0 Tuesday at Paly.

The lone goal was scored by Isaiah Schoenberger (‘19) and assisted by Marcus Ama (‘20) towards the end of the second half.

The Vikings dominated most of the game, having more shots on goal and more time of possession than the opposition, but weren’t able to capitalize until the final few minutes of the game. The goal happened after Ama stole the ball from an opposing midfielder and gave Schoenberger a perfect through ball that set up for a goal.

When asked about his team’s performance, Schoenberger said “we were really strong in the back and moved the ball in the midfield nicely.” The good defensive and midfield play likely helped the Vikings not only on the defensive side but also in setting up their offense for the one goal they needed to win the game.

Kiran Misner (‘18) and Jackson Druker (‘20) each played at half at the goalie position and did an excellent job of keeping out the few shots the Bears had on target. This was Druker’s first game as goalie for the team and he performed incredibly well. The two goalkeepers combined to shut out the opponents and help the Vikings get a win.

This stellar goalie play as well as the good play in the back both helped the team shutout their opponent for the first time this year. The team is hoping they can keep up their good defensive effort.

The Vikings go on to play the Alvarez Eagles at Paly next Thursday in an important match. The team also travels to Homestead High School for another important preseason tournament this upcoming weekend.
