Girls Varsity Tennis Dispatches Rival Los Gatos 6-1

Zach Hayward and Grace Li

Coming off a defeat in their last match, the Paly girls varsity tennis team bounced back with a convincing 6-1 win yesterday at home against rival Los Gatos.

The Vikings were helped by a strong performance by Erin Li (‘23), who won her match with game scores of 6-2 and 6-1. #1 singles player Iris Li (‘22) was also victorious, winning her games 6-1 and 6-2.

Games against the Cats, Paly’s biggest rival, generally evoke a lot of emotions, and tensions tend to run high. This match, however, was just another date on the schedule for the team.

“We’ve been focusing on each individual match since our league is pretty tough,” Li said.

In a league filled with strong competition, momentum is key. This win against the Cats will serve to provide the Vikings with motivation and hope for continued success throughout the rest of the season. With rematches against Saratoga, Monta Vista, and Homestead on deck in the next few weeks, the Vikings will need to capitalize on their newfound momentum in order to succeed.

The team will be back on the court tomorrow, March 11th, in an away match versus Saratoga at 3:30 pm.
