The Paly girls varsity water polo team defeated league opponent Mountain View 12-4 in a strong showing Thursday afternoon.

The Viking defense looked strong throughout the game, making it tough for the Spartans to get shots off. When they did though, goalie Mary Henderson (‘24) made some impressive saves. However, it was the offense that carried the team to the win.

Paige Henry (‘23) scored four goals on the day, captain Julia Ragno (‘22) netted three, and Sami Lee (‘23) and Emily Neumann (‘22) added one apiece to lead the scoring. In addition, junior Yasmin Friedrichowitz netted an impressive shot from the halfway mark of the pool for one of her four goals on the day.

“It was a really exciting play,” Aanya Kumar (‘22) said.

Throughout the game, the team clearly outperformed the Spartans, never losing momentum or pace while playing the majority of their players. They will look to continue their dominance next Tuesday in an away game against cross-town rival Gunn.

“I’m looking forward to continuing to play as a team in our next games,” Kumar said.
