Brief: Girls’ track loses to Gunn; Boys’ track triumphs

The girls’ track and field team lost to Gunn on Thursday, April 19, 53-69.

The Lady Vikes got off to a good start in the 4X100 meter relay, after winning the race with a time of 50.31 seconds.

In the 400 meter run, Paly picked up more points after Lydia Guo (‘12) and Vivian Laurence (‘14)  took second and third with times of 1:01.94 and 1:02.04 seconds. The Vikes placed well in the 100 meter dash with a first and third place finish. Torrie Nielsen (‘12) won with a time of 13.09 seconds, while Pippa Raffel (‘14) took third with 131.21 seconds.

The Lady Vikes earned nine points in the 200 meter dash after Laurence finished first in 27.50 seconds and Anna Dukovic (‘15) came in second in 27.73 seconds. In the 3200 meter race, Chika Kasahara (‘13) contributed three points with her second place finish with a time of 12:29.06 minutes.

Field events proved to be fruitful as well for the Vikes. Raffel and Nielsen took first and second in the long jump with distances of 17’ 3” and 15’ 5” feet, respectively. Raffel took third in the triple jump with a jump of 31’ 11.5” feet, and Dukovic placed second in the high jump after clearing 4’ 10” feet. Lindsay Black (‘12) continued her dominance in the shot put, after throwing 37’ 7.5” feet.

The boys’ track and field team defeated Gunn, 78-44.

The Vikings sped out of the blocks in 4X100 meter relay with an impressive time of 42.21 seconds. In the 110 meter high hurdles, Michael Johnson (‘13) finished in second place with a time of 16.14 seconds.

The Vikes further widened their lead with after Morris Gates-Mouton (‘12) and Jonathan Alee (‘13) placed first and second with times of 53.32 and 53.44 seconds, respectively.

Paly swept the 100 meter dash to assert their dominance over Gunn. E.J. Floreal (‘13) took first in 10.86 seconds, Tremaine Kirkman (‘12) placed second in 11.13 seconds, and Jayshawn Gates-Mouton (‘13) completed the sweep in 11.24 seconds.

Johnson took first place in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 42.02 seconds, while Nikolai Solgaard (‘12) and Justin Zhang (‘13) finished first and third with times of 1:59.96 and 2:07.44 seconds, respectively.

Paly picked up nine more points after sweeping the 200 meter dash as well. Floreal won with a time of 21.71 seconds, Jayshawn Gates-Mouton earned second in 22.91 seconds, and Alee placed third in 23.23 seconds.
In the long jump, Victor Du (‘13) won with a jump of 21’ 4.75” feet, and Grant Shorin(‘13) and Eilon Tzur (‘13) took second and third with jumps of 42’ 3.5” and 40’ 5.5” feet, respectively. The Vikes swept the high jump as well, with Du, Tzur, and Shorin finishing in first, second, and third, respectively.

Tory Prati (‘12) took first in the shot put with a throw of 44’ 5.75” feet, and Chris Bisbee (‘12) placed third with a throw of 41’ 1” feet. In the discus throw, Prati won with a throw of 131’ 6” feet, Spencer Drazovich (‘13) earned second with a throw of 107’ feet, and Camden Santo (‘13) completed the sweep with a throw of 106’ feet.
