Palo Alto Girls Basketball continued their season with a loss of 40-54 to Homestead on January 30th. The Vikings have had some very close matchups so far this season, with a 32-29 overtime win versus Cupertino and a tough 36-32 win versus Saratoga.
The Vikings were on a 6-game winning streak before this matchup and felt like they had all the momentum in the world, making this loss sting a little more.
“It was a tough loss because that was the game we needed to win to win the league overall! So it was definitely upsetting to lose,” said junior Katie McCue.
The Vikings are currently in third place in the league after this unexpected loss, and still have a great shot of winning the league, as they still have 5 more games to go. The Vikings are looking to bounce back from this loss and bring their best to the court for the rest of the season.
Homestead proved to be very fierce competition and had the Vikings fighting hard throughout the entire game until hope eventually slipped away in the 4th quarter.
“I think that game was really frustrating. We all worked really hard and were able to keep the score close the whole time, but it slipped away from us during the 4th quarter, said junior Katie McCue.
The Vikings now have a season with 14 wins and 6 losses. They will face off next against Cupertino on February 2nd in the hope of restarting their previous winning streak. A few of their upcoming notable opponents include Saratoga, Wilcox, and Lynbrook.
