The Palo Alto High School boys’ varsity volleyball team swept Fremont High School 3-0 on Friday in a dominant home conference victory, winning sets 25-17, 25-18 and 25-18.
The win was nothing less than commanding. Paly didn’t spend much time at all trailing during the beginning of sets, controlling the tempo from the opening serve and never allowing Fremont to get settled into the game. It was the second time this season the Vikings shut out the Firebirds, a statement that this matchup has become anything but a competition.
“We knew what to expect from them this time around,” said sophomore setter Nico Resmini. “We came to the game locked in from the opening point and never let up.”
The victory doesn’t just have a momentary effect on the morale of the team. Following their past two games, sweeping both opponents, the Vikings have now won six consecutive sets without dropping one — a run of form that signals this team is hitting its stride right when they need to during the season.
The scores told the full story. Paly never allowed Fremont more than 18 points in any set, while Paly was able to comfortably score 25, never allowing the match to feel in doubt.
“We’re playing our best volleyball right now,” Resmini said. “Everyone is dialed in and playing for one another.”
With momentum on their side, the Vikings are beginning to appear like a team that is just getting started.
