Palo Alto girls soccer battled Los Gatos to a 2–2 draw on January 15, rallying from a two-goal deficit with a dominant second-half performance.
The Vikings trailed 2–0 for much of the match, but they shifted the momentum after halftime by increasing their intensity. Junior Luiza Teixeira credited the comeback to a change in mindset.
“We started playing the hardest we could during the second half,” Teixeira said. “We wanted the ball a lot more than Los Gatos.”
Paly began exploiting weaknesses in Los Gatos’ back line, creating opportunities through well-timed runs and precise passing. Teixeira capitalized on a through ball to score her first goal of the season, cutting the deficit in half.
“It felt amazing,” Teixeira said. “It especially mattered that I made it in one of our hardest games.”
Teixeira, who typically plays the 10 but lined up as an outside midfielder for this match, said the team learned an important lesson.
“Just because you’re down 2–0, doesn’t mean the game’s over,” she said. “That’s the most dangerous score in a soccer game.”
Senior Reyes Aronson emphasized the team’s composure against a top opponent.
“Everyone played confidently and strongly,” Aronson said. “We were a bit nervous knowing Los Gatos was top in the league, but we all played together and played very well.”
The Vikings’ resilience secured a hard-fought tie and reinforced their ability to compete with the league’s best.
